The brooch has a circular form ornamented with a central cabochon natural agate panel collet set in subtle relief. This impressive brooch is ornamented to the centre with an applied 18 ct yellow gold feature quatrefoil design. This design is accented with eight seed pearls and a further five small cabochon agates. The main agate panel is bordered by a broad 18ct yellow gold border embellished with bead decoration and applied quatrefoil bead motifs.
The rim of this exceptional original 1880's brooch is ornamented with applied rope and ribbon twist decoration. The brooch secures to the reverse with a hinged pin and push fit clasp. The reverse of the brooch is inset with a push fit panel, allowing this versatile example of Victorian jewellery to be used as a locket. This antique agate brooch is supplied with an independent diamond grading report card. The brooch has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18ct gold.
